Community Update: Fire Impacts Several Barracks Row Properties

Barracks Row Main Street is saddened to share that a significant fire on Thursday evening caused extensive damage to several properties in the 700 block of 8th Street SE.
Based on information currently available, the buildings most heavily impacted include:
725 8th Street SE, home to Jackson Hewitt Tax Services and Cask & Barrel Wine & Spirit
723 and 723 1/2 8th Street SE, formerly occupied by The Ugly Mug and Valor Brewpub
721 8th Street SE, where She Loves Me Flower Shop operated until recently
Additionally, 719 8th Street SE, home to Howl to the Chief, may have experienced some damage related to the incident. Assessments are still ongoing.
Fortunately, neighboring businesses and properties, including Rose's Luxury and Meil Wellness, appear to have avoided significant damage.
This fire has significantly impacted several businesses and properties within the Barracks Row corridor and has understandably raised concerns throughout our community. These locations have long been home to businesses, entrepreneurs, employees, and customers who contribute to the vibrancy and character of Barracks Row, and we recognize the challenges that those directly affected now face. As we move forward together, we remain confident in the strength of our community and our collective ability to support recovery, rebuilding, and renewal.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to the firefighters and first responders from DC Fire and EMS whose swift actions helped contain the fire and protect surrounding properties. We also thank Councilmember Charles Allen, the Mayor's Office, the Capitol Hill BID, and District agency staff for their immediate response, ongoing support, and commitment to assisting affected businesses, property owners, and the broader community during this challenging time.
Barracks Row Main Street is actively working with affected businesses, property owners, District agencies, and community partners to help coordinate resources and support recovery efforts. We remain committed to assisting those impacted and helping our corridor navigate the road ahead.
