The 4th of July Parade
Capitol Hill’s 4th of July Parade is a beloved neighborhood tradition that brings families, community groups, local businesses, and performers together along Barracks Row for a festive celebration of Independence Day.

Watermelon Festival
The Capitol Hill Watermelon Festival is a summer favorite that draws families and neighbors together for an afternoon of free watermelon, live entertainment, community activities, and local vendors along Barracks Row.

The 23rd annual Capitol Hill Community 4th of July Parade is a local tradition that is considered one of Washington, DC's best events. Get your groups together and join in on the fun!

​​​Hello Capitol Hill Parade Participants:

It’s time again to start thinking about the Capitol Hill Barracks Row 4th of July Parade! You are receiving this email because your group has participated in the parade in recent years, and we would love to have you join us again. Registration is now officially open. To sign up your group, please complete the registration form
​
If you have any questions before registering or in the lead-up to the parade, please reply to this email or contact McKenna Boyland at mboyland@capitolhillbid.org.
A few important notes for participants:

If your group plans to include a vehicle in the parade, the city requires vehicle information and proof of insurance. Vehicle registration details should be included in the registration form.

Participants marching with animals must be able to provide vaccination records and veterinarian information if requested.
Parade Day Schedule (Approximate)
​
8:30 AM – Vehicles line up facing north under the bridge at 8th Street & Virginia Avenue SE
(Proof of insurance is required.)
9:30 AM – Marchers assemble with their designated groups
9:45 AM – All groups should be in position under the bridge
10:00 AM – Parade steps off promptly featuring
“The Commandant’s Own” United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps
10:02 AM – Naval Lodge begins marching, followed by local elected officials
10:05 AM and onward – Remaining groups proceed as directed by parade organizers.
To help keep the parade moving smoothly, groups will be staggered slightly throughout the route. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
The Capitol Hill BID’s “Men and Women in Blue” will close out the parade procession.
12:00 PM – Parade concludes
At the end of the route, please turn left onto D Street so groups behind you may continue marching without interruption.
The parade route remains the same as in previous years: northbound on 8th Street SE, ending at the Eastern Market Metro Plaza at 8th & D Street SE. As additional details become available, they will be emailed out to registrants and posted on the
Official Parade Website.

Capitol Hill 4th of July After Parade Activities
​​​Barracks Row Main Street's Watermelon Festival:
​
Barracks Row Main Street proudly presents its first-ever Watermelon Festival, a fun-filled community celebration featuring live watermelon sculpture carving, DMV Drumline performances, and live music by the Too Much Talent Band. Guests can also enjoy Compliments Only Sub Shop’s exciting Cannoli Eating Contest alongside summer activities, local vendors, and plenty of watermelon-themed fun for all ages.
