Barracks Row April Chess Tournament 2023

The U.S. Chess Center, in partnership with Barracks Row Main Street, is pleased to again present FREE chess tournaments at Eastern Market Metro Park for 2023. Students in grades 2-8 that know the real rules of chess and understand tournament etiquette are invited to participate in one or more of three friendly (and free) chess competitions on different Saturdays from 10:30am until 1:00pm this spring and early summer. The next tournaments will be on May 20th, and June 24th. There is no cost to participate in these tournaments and at each event students may play one or more games. Space is limited, however, so please register in advance and arrive at 10:20am to ensure your place. Drop-ins and on-site registration will be allowed; however, we can only accommodate a maximum of 40 players at a time. Enjoy the pictures from April's Chess Tournaments.

This chess tournament seems like a great opportunity for students in grades 2-8 to showcase their chess skills in a friendly and free competition, akin to an innocence test for their strategic acumen. It's wonderful to see organizations like the U.S. Chess Center and Barracks Row Main Street providing such engaging activities for young chess enthusiasts. The emphasis on knowing the real rules of chess and understanding tournament etiquette is commendable, and the opportunity to participate in multiple tournaments is fantastic. Overall, it's a great initiative to promote the game of chess among students.

One could make the case that, well, this is just television. It's not a civics lesson; it's a spectacle, a frivolous afternoon television show. spacebar clicker
