News from Barracks Row
From D Street to I St. SE the Row continues to evolve. The Vanity Box is now open for business at 737 8th Street, SE bringing to the 700 block another destination for female shoppers on beautification missions. The Vanity Box sells human hair that is used for extensions allowing women to go from short hair to long flowing tresses in just a few hours. But before you call your salon to have this done, you need to buy those extensions - at the new Vanity Box.

Opening in just 10 days is United Building Group's Alban Masonry at 729 8th St. SE, Suite 200.  Masons are back-to-the-future famous in the District. City founder, George Washington was a ceremonial Mason plus this area is home to the impressive Navy Yard Masons Lodge nearby on Pennsylvania Ave. But, Alban Masonry is different. They are the real deal- commercial, new construction masons! Reach them or call 202-640-2507.

But Barracks Row is best know for a hip food scene. In just a few short weeks we've all come to love ChiKo, the new Chinese Korean fusion start-up at 423 8th Street whose inspired owners are out to wow us with their inventive flavor profiles.

Then, there's Porron just opened at 525 8th St, SE, a pop-up with Spanish roots for us to savor.   Very soon Sushi Hachi, sister restaurant to Clarendon's acclaimed Sushi Rock, will open at 735 8th Street.

After four years of a hot streak on the Row, Aaron Silverman is expanding Pineapple and Pearls, 715 8th St. SE to a location just one block away at Hill Center - opening Little Pearl for breakfast and lunch by fall. The original Pineapple and Pearls on Barracks Row will continue as ever an acclaimed, by reservation only DC landmark.

We'll all miss Capital Teas at 731 8th St. After rapid growth the owners made a corporate decision as part of bankruptcy proceedings to close many locations effective this week- including our Barracks Row site! At this point we have no information on the next occupants of 731 but the action on the Row never ends. We'll let you know as the next chapter unfolds!
